Board Exams: How To Beat The Stress

Hello Parents,

The big word is here. "Boards."

Just hearing it makes our heart beat a little faster, doesn't it? The house becomes a silent zone, the TV is off, and everyone is walking on eggshells. We feel that if we are not stressing, we are not taking it seriously.

But at Paathshala, we want to ask: Is this pressure really helping our children?

A stressed mind is like a jammed printer. It has all the information, but nothing comes out right. Our children are already feeling the weight of expectations. They don't need more from us; they need us to be their calm anchor in this storm.

Here is how we can help them (and ourselves) take the pressure off during these upcoming exams.

Why Less Pressure = Better Marks

  • Clearer Thinking: When a child is calm, their brain works better. They can remember what they studied and solve problems faster.

  • No Silly Mistakes: Panic makes children rush and make careless errors in questions they actually know. A relaxed mind is a careful mind.

  • Better Health: Too much stress leads to headaches, stomach aches, and bad sleep. A sick child cannot give their best exam.

5 Simple Ways to Lower the Stress Thermometer

1. Stop the "Sharmaji ka Beta" Talk. Please, let's not compare. Your child's journey is their own. Saying "Look how much he is studying" doesn't motivate them; it just makes them feel not good enough. Focus on their effort, not someone else's results.

2. Be a Listener, Not Just an Advisor. Sometimes, they just need to vent. "I'm scared of Maths," or "There is too much syllabus." Instead of immediately giving solutions ("Do more practice!"), just listen. Say, "I understand, it is a lot. We will tackle it together." Knowing you are on their team reduces half the anxiety.

3. Ensure "Brain Breaks" are Non-Negotiable. Studying for 4 hours straight is not productive. Their brain needs to recharge. Ensure they take 15-minute breaks to stretch, listen to a song, or talk to you about something totally silly. (Struggling to get them to concentrate during study time? 4. Prioritize Sleep and Good Food. This is basic but crucial. No late-night cramming before the exam day. A tired brain will crash. And feed them light, healthy home-cooked meals. Avoid heavy junk food that makes them sluggish.

5. Your Calm is Contagious. Children feed off our energy. If you are panicking, they will panic. Even if you are worried inside, try to show a calm face outside. Smile. Tell them, "Whatever happens, we are proud of how hard you are trying." That one sentence is magic.

The board exams are just one event in their long life. It does not define them. Let's help them face it with confidence, not fear.

Take a deep breath. You've got this, and so do they.
